Job Description

Medical Assistant Overview

  • The Medical Assistant serves as the initial point of contact for patient care, ensuring a seamless and professional experience.
  • Perform both administrative and clinical duties, contributing to efficient healthcare operations and patient satisfaction.
  • Engage in semi-routine assignments requiring interpretation of policies and independent discretion within defined parameters.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians and advanced practice providers to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Administer medications and vaccines, conduct diagnostic tests, and perform phlebotomy and specimen collection.
  • Maintain and sterilize equipment, ensuring examination rooms are prepared and compliant with healthcare standards.
  • Document patient information accurately in electronic medical records, supporting effective communication and care coordination.
  • Contribute to patient-facing initiatives, including tuberculosis screening and adherence to safety protocols.

Medical Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform clinical tasks such as obtaining vital signs, discussing symptoms, and administering treatments.
  • Conduct diagnostic screenings, phlebotomy, and specimen collection with precision and care.
  • Ensure examination rooms are clean, sterilized, and prepared for patient visits.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to deliver personalized patient care and support.
  • Document patient information in electronic medical records, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Follow standard procedures while exercising discretion in prioritizing tasks and assignments.
  • Participate in value-based care initiatives, including HEDIS and CPT/ICD coding.
  • Provide bilingual communication support when required, enhancing patient experience and accessibility.

Medical Assistant Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; successful completion of a medical assistant training program preferred.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant certification required for specific states.
  • CPR certification and tuberculosis screening compliance are mandatory.
  • Experience in phlebotomy, medication administration, and diagnostic testing preferred.
  • Knowledge of HEDIS, CPT/ICD coding, and CAHPS/HOS patient experience is advantageous.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently while adhering to healthcare policies and standards.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in patient care and administrative duties.
