Welcome to #WeAreGreenKey, where we shine a spotlight on the incredible people behind our powerhouse recruiting team.

Clare Wright graduated with a business degree in 2009 and joined Green Key shortly thereafter. She is now an Executive Director of Recruitment at Green Key Professional Support

We asked Wright to talk us through her recruiting journey, working at Green Key, and the administrative job search.

What inspired you to pursue a career in recruitment?

I fell in to recruiting, like many others. After graduating with a business degree in the UK in 2009, I came to the USA to intern and found an internship with Green Key. 12 years, 2 kids, one dog, several apartments, and one house later, I’m an Executive Director of the Professional Support team handling permanent and temporary placements in NYC.

What sets Green Key apart from other recruiting firms?

We’re a team. There are so many ups and downs in recruiting but having a strong team to support each other and lift each other up is so important!

Where has Green Key Professional Support provided service that is hard to match in an internal hiring team?

We can provide an alternate perspective and sometimes suggest a different profile that might seem like the right fit on paper but ends up being a great match for the position given our extensive screening process!

CEOs Say Tight Labor and Retaining Talent Are Top Concerns

The possibility of recession, the certainty of intense competition, a tight labor market and global trade and instability, are the top worries of corporate CEOs worldwide.

Only in China, with a population of 1.4 billion, are executives less concerned about the labor market, but even they rank attracting and retaining their best talent as their number one internal worry.

The annual survey of the world’s CEOs by The Conference Board, found unanimous agreement about the outside issues that concern them. Recession, which was at the top of the list of external issues everywhere but the US last year, is now in first place. In Japan, with a rapidly aging and shrinking population and limited immigration, the tight labor market nudged recession fears to second place.

“The ongoing concerns about recession risk among business leaders reflect the slowing economy of the past year and the uncertainties about the outcome of the trade disputes and other policy concerns,” said Bart van Ark, chief economist at The Conference Board.

Of the many internal issues CEOs confront, attracting and retaining their best talent is the leading worry.

“The global challenge in acquiring and retaining talent requires companies to be more strategic – knowing not only what qualities and skills to recruit for, but also how to recruit more efficiently and effectively,” said Rebecca Lea Ray, Ph.D., executive vice president of human capital at The Conference Board.

Two of the other issues among the top five globally are also workforce focused: leadership succession and innovation.

For US leaders developing “Next Gen” leaders is a concern just behind the disruption technology is causing. In other parts of the world, CEOs and the C-suite also consider both among their two or three biggest worries. But in the US, where disruptive technologies are often born, data analytics/data collaboration is a greater concern than elsewhere.

Everywhere, though, creating a more innovative culture is a priority concern.

In a world where change is constant and opportunities abound, professionals in accounting and finance are increasingly seeking new paths to channel their skills and expertise. Transitioning from a traditional accounting and finance role to a career in accounting and finance recruitment offers an exciting opportunity to embrace change and chart a new course towards professional fulfillment and success. We caught up with Antonia Piazza, Recruiter on our Accounting and Finance team to discuss her journey of transitioning careers and share advice for other professionals who might be considering how their experience can transfer into a recruiting career.

Antonia shared a little on how she got into Accounting and Finance recruiting, saying, “I was looking to relocate to Pittsburgh, so I spoke with a GKR recruiter about accounting openings in Pittsburgh, and, after speaking about accounting roles, she mentioned the possibility of recruiting. I was honestly surprised I hadn’t thought about that career path sooner, as it seemed like a perfect fit given my accounting foundation and appreciation for working with people.”

Understand the Recruitment Process

“There was definitely a learning curve when I transitioned out of accounting and into recruiting,” said Antonia. So, before diving into recruiting, be sure to familiarize yourself with the recruitment cycle. Understand how recruiters source candidates, conduct interviews, and evaluate qualifications.
