Welcome back to #WeAreGreenKey, where we shine a spotlight on our powerhouse recruiting team. 

We recently met up with Allison Vogt, Internal Recruiter on Green Key’s Talent Acquisition team. Allison started her role this past March. In the past four months, she has already learned and grown tremendously in her first exposure to recruiting. She shared with us her training experience and mentorship thus far, as well as her future goals in the staffing industry. 

What about recruiting first sparked your interest? 

I kinda fell into recruiting. I was looking for a job earlier this year when I spoke to James Whitehead, one of my dad’s good friends. I hopped on the phone with him and he explained the company and culture here. I’ve always been a people-person, who strives off energy from talking to people. I’ve worked in food service and retail since I was a teenager. I then talked to Brooke [Stemen], originally for a production role. She mentioned the role she had open for Junior Internal Recruiter. It sounded more like me, hiring people I’d get to work and collaborate with.  

What has your training in Talent Acquisition looked like so far? 

It’s moved pretty quickly. For the first couple weeks, I was shadowing a lot of Brooke’s interviews and calls. We schedule all the candidate interviews with every member of the team, so I’ve been making the candidate calls to get their availability, hear their feedback, and answer any clarifying questions they may have. Matt Kutin also let me listen in on his interviews in the beginning. I’ve also taken training LinkedIn and Salesforce training to learn how to source candidates. After a few weeks, I starting running interviews and calls alone.  

This is my first venture into the corporate world and recruiting world. I really like the speed at which I was trained; it’s better to make mistakes sooner than later. I already have a much better handle of the duties of the job and all the recruiting jargon.  

In your first couple of months, how has Green Key made you feel welcome? 

Since we’re mostly virtual, team meetings and coffee chats to get to know one another have been great. I’m also in the office two days a week, so I’ve gotten to know the Partners of the firm. They always check up on me and loop me into conversations. The inclusivity really makes a difference to the company culture. 

What is the most important thing you’ve learned in recruiting thus far? 

Coming in with transparency and honesty. Candidates don’t want to be lied to, so it’s important to be up front about the recruiting process from the beginning. I don’t put on a work façade. I can authentically represent this company and its values while building trust between myself and the candidate. Watching Brooke and Matt has really defined the expectations of the whole process.  

How are you hoping to grow in the world of recruiting? 

I would love to get more into full-cycle recruiting, from sourcing to the offer stage. It would be awesome to one day grow the team with Brooke and train someone below me. I’d also love to continue working with the marketing team and collaborating with their projects.  

What are the next steps for candidates interested in expanding their recruiting job search?

  • Conduct market research: “…you need to gather useful data for making informed decisions. Market research is like playing detective, but instead of solving crimes, you’re uncovering juicy details about your customers. Market research will help your businesses make data-driven decisions for your marketing strategy. It also makes it easier to understand your target market, find gaps, and make the most of your resources.”
  • Define your goals: What do you want to achieve through your marketing efforts? Whether it’s increasing brand awareness, driving sales, or diversifying your customer base, well-defined goals will guide your marketing strategy.”
  • Identify your target audience and create buyer personas: To create an effective marketing strategy, you need to understand who your ideal customers are. Take a look at your market research to understand your target audience and market landscape. Accurate customer data is especially important for this step…”
  • Conduct competitive analysis: To begin your competitive analysis, start with your top competitors. Reviewing their websites, content, ads, and pricing can help you understand how to differentiate your brand. It’s also a useful way to find opportunities for growth.”
  • Develop key messaging: Craft compelling massages and creative assets that effectively communicate your value proposition and resonate with your audience. Ensure consistency in messaging across all channels to build brand recognition and trust.
  • Choose your marketing channels: You know what you have to say, now decide on the best marketing channels for your message. Your top goal for this stage of your strategy is to align your channel choices with your target persona’s media consumption habits. Start with media channels you’re already using. Then, consider a mix of traditional and digital channels such as social media, TV, email marketing, podcast ads, SEO, content marketing, and influencer partnerships.
